Neighbors on the 12000 block of Elmore Road in Millbrook sensed trouble on Sept. 13 when they hadn’t seen 68-year-old widow Virginia McLaughlin in about a day, so they called police.
Officers entered McLaughlin’s home at about 12:42 p.m and found her unresponsive on the floor near her front door with numerous stab wounds. In the kitchen, they found 60-year-old Lawrence Carty, of the 3500 block of Grant Ave., who was also unresponsive and had apparently sliced himself in both arms. Police now believe that an argument between the acquaintances prompted Carty to stab McLaughlin fatally before turning the knife on himself. ••
